Polymerization

Order-No. 6222

Department:
  • Chemistry

Year of production: 2016
Duration: 07:28 minutes

This film is about polymerization, the basic reaction used in the manufacture of plastics. A life without plastics is no longer conceivable. We build with them, use them for crafts, wear them, transport our sandwiches in them, drink out of them and use them to wrap our food in.
These examples already hint at the main guises of plastics: film, foam, adhesives, paint, textile fibers, construction materials.
The starting product is a clear liquid, styrene, which was discovered by Eduard Simon in 1835.
The film explains a number of polymerizations.
