Carbon Cycle

Order-No. 6195

Department:
  • Chemistry

Year of production: 2016
Duration: 05:16 minutes

The subject of this film is the carbon cycle. The element carbon is stored in many compounds on Earth. It is stored as carbonate in sediments, for example in calcium carbonate, and as kerogen. Kerogen is organic matter that can be found in clay. Carbon is also found in fossil fuels, in dead biomass like humus and peat, as well as in all animals and plants. Large amounts are also dissolved in the form of carbon dioxide and calcium hydrogen carbonate in sea water. An exchange takes place between all the different carbon reservoirs, which forms a cycle. The global carbon cycle is divided into a biological and a geological cycle. The smallest carbon reservoir is the atmosphere where it is found as carbon dioxide.
