People inhale 10 to 15 thousand liters of air into their lungs each day. They are made up of two halves which are divided into lung lobes by indentations. There are around 300 million alveoli in each half. The main task of the lungs is gaseous exchange between air and blood with the absorption of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide.
