Electroplating technology, colloquially referred to as galvanizing, is the electrochemical depositing of metallic coatings on what are called substrates - for example covering a piece of metal with a usually very thin layer of a more precious metal. The process is named after the Italian doctor Luigi Galvani, who discovered it in 1780.
